With apologies to all of our favorite local musicians and bands that we see on a regular basis, here are my top 10 concerts for 2023:
- Eric Clapton at Budokan in Tokyo Japan. Attending a concert at Budokan was on my bucket list, and Eric Clapton did not disappoint. It was a pleasure to attend the concert with my Japanese friend, Masatoshi Shoji.
- Peter Gabriel at the Wells Fargo Center. I had never seen Peter Gabriel before, and he put on an awesome show!
- Duran Duran / Nile Rodgers and Chic / Bastille at the Wells Fargo Center. Great show- my favorite was Nile Rodgers- killer band, and nothing but hits.
- Quincy at the Vault in Berlin NJ. The last time we saw Quincy was over 40 years ago. An incredible reunion show, playing one of my all time favorite albums in its entirety.
- Willie Nile’s 75th birthday bash at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park NJ. Willie was fantastic as always, but a highlight had to be when Willie called his 105-year-old father from the stage to tell him he was celebrating his birthday. What a great moment!
- Boy George / Howard Jones / Berlin at the Mann Music Center. I enjoyed all of them, but Berlin really impressed me.
- Aerosmith / Black Crowes at the Wells Fargo Center. It had been a while since I’ve seen Aerosmith. It was the start of the tour- glad we got to see them as Steven Tyler subsequently got sick and had to cancel a lot of shows on the tour. Loved the Black Crowes, too.
- Daryl Hall / Todd Rundgren at the Wind Creek Event Center. We see Todd every chance we get, and he sounded great for this one.
- Skunk Baxter at Sellersville Theater. It was awesome to see a guitarist for 2 of my favorite bands, the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan up close in my favorite local venue. Great band, incredible guitar player, and he was very entertaining with his stories- a brilliant guy.
- Bare Naked Ladies / Five for Fighting / Del Amitri at the Met. I treated a friend for his birthday. He is a big Del Amitri fan, and they were my favorite of the bands that night.
