I enjoy all genres of music- jazz and folk to heavy metal and classical. But nothing gets me more excited than hearing those classic oldies from the 60s and 70s. And no one covers that era better than our friends in the AM Radio Tribute Band. We had a great time celebrating the New Year with a champaign dinner at the Washington House followed by the last of AM Radio’s 3 sold-out performances at the Sellersville Theater. We even wore our finest 60s attire for the party. The show was extra special as the band was joined by Trammps’ vocalist, David Nobles. A fun night!
And I guess it’s now that time when I have to think about my 2024 goals. I came up with a few:
- Dramatically decrease my time on Facebook and social media, and publish this blog about my life as a retiree. The blog should be pretty easy, other than learning the software and improving the format and content to keep it interesting. The challenge will be staying away from social media, since that is how I stay in contact with so many friends. But I started by removing the Facebook app from my phone. We’ll see how it goes. My sons are taking bets on how long I last…
- Attend the ZERO Prostate Cancer Summit in Washington DC in February and speak to my representatives on Capitol Hill to advocate for funding and legislation for prostate cancer education, detection, treatment, and research. I’ve attended the Summit every year since I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 4 years ago. At the previous summits, I stuck with the educational tracks, but this will be the first time I will be joining other prostate cancer survivors to tell our stories to our representatives. This will be a challenge, but I’m going to give it my best shot. I’m already a bit nervous about this one.
- Resurrect my own hiking group. Most recently I have been participating in the SE Pennsylvania Hiking Group’s hikes, but that Facebook group has now grown to several thousand members, and while it’s great to meet new people, I’d like to spend some more time hiking with a smaller group of friends. My challenge will be to keep my hiking this year within bounds of what I can physically do. If you’d like to join me some time, send me your email address to get on my distribution list and get notified of my hiking schedule.
- Have a dry January- no alcohol for the month. I heard on the news this morning that this is a big thing now, so I’ll give it a try. I do take breaks from alcohol now and then, and this post-holiday month is probably a good time for it, right?
I have some other goals for the year as well, but I’ll stick with this for now. To see what else I’ll be doing in 2024, you’ll just have to continue to follow my blog posts! Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year, and feel free to comment on what your goals are for the year!
